Logo design branding development for a travel agency based in Tampa, Florida. The Owner/Operator of Visas and Vistas Travel, Anne Mullett, left her accountant job in 2016 and brought her meticulous planning methods to the travel industry. Anne was looking for fun, bright colors for her visual identity and wanted to incorporate the look of a passport stamp.

Living in Chicago, I use the Ventra app quite frequently. I have always been disappointed in the design and layout of the app and thought that this would be a good opportunity to challenge my design skills. I saw that there were a few simple design changes that could easily help to make this app cleaner and easier to use.
I will preface this experiment with a disclaimer that that these views are my own, this is not an exhaustive study into the workings of the Ventra app and its users, but merely a challenge to test my skills.
PERSONAL GOALS:
To create a cleaner, simpler, more intuitive design of the Ventra app than is currently available. To gain experience in designing user interfaces with Sketch as well as user experience data gathering with Survey Monkey. Lastly, to create a prototype of my redesign.
CHALLENGES:
Not knowing what the developers of the current Ventra app had done or what challenges they faced in creating the app at the start.
PROCESS:
I hand sketched the current flow of the Ventra app as well as ideas for alternative options. I laid out some initial digital designs in Sketch, and then made adjustments to those designs after receiving user comments from a conducted survey. This redesign had a few iterations before I finally settled on this final look. For example. I had originally wanted all buttons and no lists on the main page. I wanted to allow for a simple main screen, but also give customers the east access to items they use the most. I had thought that no one really used the transit tracker at all in the app, but I found that many folks do, but that what they didn’t like, was that the Favorites was so buried within the app, that it wasn’t worth using when in a pinch. I rectified this by putting the Favorites on the main screen and allowing for easy access.
WHAT I LEARNED:
There will be many angles to consider when building an app, but you have to account for the most important aspects - prioritize what those are and work from there. I had originally started off wanting to design something that looked better that what was already out there, but I believe my design has both a clean look and easy functionality.

T-shirt logo design for a local Chicago band, Claire and the Bears. When asked what words come to mind to describe the band, they said "Female forward, strong, proud, fierce, but not overly masculine." Their sound is described as a blend of 70's rock, pop punk, Stax soul, feminist folk and southern gothic country. The female lead singer wears very striking glasses that I wanted to utilize in my design.

Rebrand of company identity. Collaborated with the Senior Graphic Designer and Creative Director to create a new logo and color scheme for the firm. Once finalized, I was tasked with creating a stationary suite, including business cards, that featured the new design style. We then worked to create a set design style for proposal covers that would further brand recognition to potential clients.
